Letter received from James in Hurley, VA; August 2008
I want to thank you for the reissue of Moore and Napier’s
classic “Gospel and Sacred Songs”….that is one of my
favorite gospel albums from one of my favorite bands….
I was beginning to think I wasn’t ever going to see any
of Moore and Napier’s great recordings (besides some
Truck Driving songs and “Country Hymnal”) released on CD in great sound….
Charlie Moore is one of my favorite singers, but it was
Bill Napier who first got me interested in playing bluegrass….
I now play lead guitar, banjo, and mandolin in a bluegrass group,
keeping with Bill’s way of being a “multi-instrumentalist”….
I was wondering, by any chance will you be reissuing any more of Moore and Napier’s
recordings? I’m sure you’re aware of “Country Music Goes to Vietnam”,
“City Folks Back On The Farm”, “Spectacular Instrumentals”
(Bill really showed he could play on this one), “1968”, “Folk Singing Hootenanny”
(Unbelievably great picking, singing, and song selection on that one),
and of course their first album, “Folk N’ Hill”
(Groundbreaking bluegrass lead guitar on that one)…….
I never got to meet Bill Napier myself, as he passed away before I
started picking, but my grandfather did and always says Bill was
one of the nicest guys he ever met….
I found the “Gospel and Sacred Songs” at Ernest Tubb’s Record Shop
in Pigeon Forge, TN and couldn’t get to the checkout counter fast enough!…….
Again, thanks so much for the Moore and Napier recordings.
Sincerely,
James in Hurley, VA
